He's able to live so long because of some herb? Does he have the herb somewhere? Will he give it to the others?

It is said when he made Ten smell some chemical to sleep and not try to fight old Piccolo Daimao that he had taken the elixir of life and couldn't die. While he lied about not being able to die as in, being killed, it makes sense in the context of eternal life. Tho iirc in the first arc it was said some rare bird or a hawk idk had given him this ability. Idk...

I never understood why Toriyama wrote Roshi to be immortal but Baba, Tsuru, and Tao are all still alive despite being +200 years old like Roshi.

You know for some reason I never thought of that.
Tao looks pretty young all things considered

I think DBZ characters just have long lifespans. Like how old masters and monks live hundreds of years thanks to meditation, Qi and all that spiritual stuff.

Toriyama said Saiyans have naturally longer lifespans than humans unless they die in battle and they quickly become old after 80. Seems like average humans don't live longer than real life people do, it's just people like Roshi and Baba that are the exceptions.

There's also that Super filler in the episode where Kuririn unlocked that Zen state that states that Roshi is lengthening his lifespan with magic herbs. Might not be written by AT, but it's an explanation and it has more authority than stuff like GT and the movies anyways.

I wonder if #17 & #18 have longer life spans too.

Of course average humans live less, they’re normal people like you and me. Roshi and co. are like those mythological characters of old. Think old biblical characters or Taoist masters.

Also part 1 had way more weird stuff, while in Z the world is more like the real world. That’s why I don’t bat an eye at certain people being super old.

I guess Roshi's parents aged slow. So Roshi's mom was 16 at 48 and had Baba. Then she was like 37 at 148 and had Roshi. Tao is 200, but looks 50. Roshi looks 100 (lmao burn) but is 400.
