There's also Vinland Saga, which is in some ways similar to a Viking version of Berserk's Golden Age. I wouldn't say it's as good as Golden Age (though not much is), and it's been kind of hit or miss in most areas after the timeskip, but a good series overall nonetheless.
Devilman is also a necessary read for anyone who likes Berserk, seeing as how Miura was heavily influenced by it (eg. Akira and Ryo having a similar friendship to Guts and Griffith, as well as the finale being very similar to the Eclipse). I'd say Berserk is still a better series, but it is a worthwhile read and easily Go Nagai's best written work. It isn't that long either (about 4-5 volumes).

Posted before it was mainly for wanting something with alliteration, though it may have been due to my cousin being really into death metal such as Waking the Cadaver at the time, so the word Cadaver just came to me. After that, it was just finding something to go along with it I guess.

It's character writing, well crafted story and incredibly detailed art.
Also, not all the violence is "gross", as there is some level of rule of cool to it in the right places, plus a lot of the creepier imagery shows great creativity.

Did we really need to see that that graphically? And then there's even worse stuff. It's so bad in-fact whenever I open a page regarding Berserk I clear it from the history, like washing your hands clean off something.

The part about it being pure entertainment is pretty subjective, since there comes a point where more depressing and down to earth stories are far more appealing than most typical lighthearted works due to oversaturation of the latter. Plus, at least in Berserk, the violence and sexual scenes are used in a manner that is fully integrated into the story and character development, as well as helping flesh out the setting, rather than just unecessary edge like in most similar violent works like Gantz.
