So is there even any explanation as to how Rob Lucci got so stupidly strong?

Did he just bench 400 foot tall trees and drink lots of orange juice and do plenty of sit ups and push ups

I think the Vivre card guidebooks implied that most of CP9 trained over the time skip to acquire Haki. Still absolute trash.

So kind of like if Shoulder Master Tenshithands trained after Cell and became strong enough to fight on par with Ultimate Gohan due to how good the protein shakes were. Nice.

Luffy barely beat him at Enies Lobby, and then he had the same amount of time to improve plus he awakened. Not really that far fetched that he'd be incredibly strong now.

He wasn't on Luffy's level anyway.

It's an asspull. Oda just likes powering up his returning villains like Crocodile.

This opens the door for people who were relevant 2 years ago like Magellan and Enel to get up to Yonko tier using off screen training as an excuse. It completely devalues G5 that it has to be used against ultimately irrelevant characters such as these, it's poor writing and makes you question how Akainu isn't worlds above Gold Roger with the time he's had to get stronger.

Plus, in OP World it appears training does less good for your power than simply fighting a series of life or death battles. Luffy improved more significantly in a matter of months in the New World than from 2 years of nonstop training.

At least Enel and Magellan had god tier devil fruits, though.

Still, they have no business being Yonko tier. If it were that easy to reach, there only being a handful of people who ever got so strong like WB, BM, Kaido, Shanks, Reilley, Roger makes zero sense. Two years of training isn't that much in the grand scheme of decade and decades of piracy.

Lucci bring a prodigy made no sense retrospectively when we saw how powerful everyone was post time skip. Why would dome weakling who didn't even have Haki be considered a prodigy? Oda wrote himself into a corner with the powerscaling. The Straw Hats should've wiped the floor with him.

At best him being a challenging opponent for Brook, Franky or Jinbe is where I'd draw the line. He should be worlds below Luffy after he took down Kaido. Yonko tier being super easy to reach like SSJG/SSJB tier in Super is asstrash writing.

Even if you want to make the argument that Luffy was messing around, Lucci still managed to evade Luffy's supremely advanced Haki and nearly killed Sentomaru right in front of him. None of it made any sense. Then to further hype him up, Stussy needed to use sea stone on him to take him out. Just whack.

Their fists were touching though so I don’t think Luffy was using advanced Haki.

I mean more so that he was faster than Luffy's future sight. Complete bullshit

Yeah but I think Yonko level is an over exaggeration. Portrayal wise admirals > Lucci still.

Oh it is for sure, it's just funny more than anything that he's able to contend with one in the first place.

I don't get where you think Lucci is Yonko tier just because he fought luffy for a few panels. Especially when Luffy's new form doesn't take anything seriously when he fights. If CP0 was on the level of the Yonko there would be no need for the power balance the entire series or the creation of the Seraphim.

Luchi doesn't land a hit during the entire fight and is bleeding and about to pass out at the end of it. He's completely outclassed.

Luffy powers up in the new world by mastering new kinds of haki and awakening his devil fruit. It's not bad writing that other characters also do similar things off screen.

Luffy only used G5 for fan service. Bounce Man should be more than enough for Lucci.

Him even needing G4 is overkill much less G5 imo

Luffy was already giving Kaido a hard time without G5. Him going G5 against Lucci may possibly indicate he needed that, or it was simply a fanservice which is also stupid considering ultimate forms shouldn't be just used without necessity. Luffy held his G4 form all the way until he was backed into a corner by Doflamingo, yet now he's spamming them? Ugh. And even still, Lucci was very fine after receiving a lot of punches by G5 Luffy. One punch by G4 Luffy made Doflamingo get into his knees, and Luffy improved drastically even with no G5. And now Lucci getting in many shots and still acting relatively fine afterwards shows he improved drastically to a point of being at leaast able to fight with Kaido and get in many shots.
