Is the 97 anime worth watching?

As long as you don't compare it to the far superior manga and look at it purely through it's own merits, then it still stands up as a very good anime, aside from it's cliffhanger ending during the Eclipse. It's still the best dark fantasy anime out there, though that's not saying much with a lack of quality competition. It's still has a lot more worth watching than the Golden Age movie trilogy.

I'd also advise watching the dub for this one, since the main cast did an excellent job here, plus the english voices fit the setting a lot more. The only gripe I had with the dub was that nearly every fodder soldier in the Midland Army was voiced by Sean Schemmel doing his Goku voice rather than having a varied cast, but that's a minor flaw compared to it's benefits.

I disliked the dub for Casca's shitty voice. Griffith and Guts have decent voices, but the acting feels subpar. Also, Zodd sounds very sexually aroused fighting Guts in the dub.

Yeah Guts sounds too old considering he is in his teens for the entirety of golden age. Hell he seemed almost short for his age when he first met Griffith lol, yet sounded like he was at least 29.

I don't find Guts' voice to be too unfitting for his age, since there can be exceptions in terms of the correlation between age and vocal depth. This is a guy who's gone through a lot and is completely jacked whilst slaying average guys like they're nothing. His testosterone level's easily an exception for his age.
