Pokemon went to shit exactly as soon as they introduced Mewtwo Y. There were literally memes going around everywhere on Social Media criticizing the Hell out of it at the time. It just goes to show how much of a failed concept Mega Evolutions/Regional Forms/Gigantamax were in general.

I think Megas were fine as a way to save bitch Pokemon like Sunflora, but they never did save them and focused on making beasts like Tyranitar, Salamence, Charizard etc. instead. Not to mention some Megas were literally worse than the original form like Garchomp and some Pokemon got them for no reason like Blaziken getting one when the other Hoenn starters lacked them til Oras.

Regional forms were trash though and just showed their Genwunner favoritism, plus legendary Pokemon like Zapdos and Articuno just get cheapened by having regional copies of themselves rather than being unique.

Idk about Dynamax/Gigantamax as I've never played any of the Switch games and don't intend to.

Megas are an actual design change, Gigantamax Pikachu and Charizard are just hella big and/or on fire lol. Peak creativity.
