How important is this arc? I've just reached it in the manga and I'm debating skipping it. I may read it due to forgetting a lot about it, but meh.

I skipped almost everything prior to the Oars battle. I don't think it's all that important beyond meeting Kuma and what happens to Perona.

Ah, yeah. If I recall, the latter part of it does hold some importance, so I may skip halfway or so.

I guess Perona is the only person to focus on if you do read it.

Do not skip it please. Read everything, even if it seems unimportant to you.

Read it again... but without skip anything and you'll enjoy it a lot more.

Thriller Bark is a precursor to the Whitebeard War technically, so it's still somewhat important.

Early Thriller Bark is good for the humor. Probably some of the funnier one piece gags, like Luffy stuffing the zombie back in the ground.

Beyond that, the Oars fight, Brooks backstory, and the aftermath with kuma etc are the only real high points of that arc IMO
