Someone in Kanzenshuu made a thread the other day comparing the manga's japanese dialogue to the Viz translations, and as expected there seems to be plenty of gaps, both in terms of normal dialogue. Here's a link to the thread.

So basically:
- Vados' line about Kefla is a bit more vague. She just talks about how she's the perfect balance between power and skill now instead of saying she's unmatched in the battlefield.
- On the other hand, Goku's line about 17 is way more straightforward. Goku flat out says 17 was almost as strong as himself.
- Toyotaro isn't just as bad at writting dialogue as I'd think, Viz just screwed him up. A noteworthy example is that Bardock wished his sons to grow up well, not to "thrive", which kinda solves the whole "But Raditz is dead" thing.
- Toriyama is not Toyotaro's co-writer, he's merely credited as "original story" just like he is in the anime or GT.

Yeah, the editor (I believe) even said that AT, him and Toyotaro meet-up to discuss story-ideas and such I think.

Toyotarō:
Oh no… This whole time I was afraid of adding to your frustrations. Since the original story you give me is text, I constantly have your manga by my side as I draw. I don’t want readers to say it doesn’t feel like Dragon Ball… But at the same time, I also want to stretch my imagination and come up with brand new action and different kind of expressions.

So far Dragon Ball Super has followed Toriyama-sensei‘s plot, but I think it might be interesting for Toyotarō-sensei to become more involved with the story-writing process from here on out!

Toriyama:
Good idea!! I bet it’ll make it more interesting to include Toyotarō-sensei‘s original ideas.

Toyotarō:
T-That’s so much pressure… (sweat). But I think it’ll be really cool to help Dragon Ball someday reach its final chapter.
Toriyama:
Oh, that’s good! People will go “Wow, Toriyama-sensei planned it all out from the beginning!” and I’ll look really cool (laughs).

VU: When it comes to Dragon Ball Super, the original story is Toriyama-sensei‘s, but the manga and artwork are by Toyotaro-sensei. The three of us, myself included, work out the story, but then the process of storyboarding it out onto the page is left to Toyotaro-sensei. Since we build in time for Toriyama-sensei to do an additional check, Toyotaro-senseiproduces these really clean storyboards.

VL: Ah, so for Toyotaro-sensei, this is something he’s going to show Toriyama-sensei…

VU: That’s right. Toyotaro-sensei is a Dragon Ball fan himself.
K: In that case Uchida-san, can you share any hunches about where the new arc will go?

VU: Ah, thoughts on where the new arc might go… I actually have a meeting about that in two days.

K: Really?!

VU: So I’ll basically be sitting down for various discussions with Toriyama-sensei and Toyotaro-sensei. The idea isn’t to get to the point of being able to say, “We’re definitely going with this!” We’re just going to be… narrowing down. We’ll be paring down from what were an initial ten or so choices to about three. This is actually the first time we’ve had to narrow down from so many different options. So we should wind up being able to condense things down into a really interesting story.
VL: Hm. You said you have meetings with the three of you: Toriyama-sensei, and Toyotaro-sensei, and yourself. What would you say the power balance in those meetings is like? Like, in relation to one another?

VU: One-hundred million, ten million, -100.

VL: Sounds like someone’s in the way. (laughs)

VU: I might actually be holding them back!

VL: You feel like the two of them would be fine on their own?

VU: It’s more like… they have a good chemistry.

VL: Toriyama-sensei and Toyotaro-sensei?

VU: They don’t butt heads with each other. One of them will pitch an idea and the other will go, “Hey, that’s great,” and then add to it, and they just build and build on one another’s thoughts.

Cool. People always talk about these interviews, but I never seen specific quotes or links before. I was also wondering if Toriyama’s draft was even an actual thing besides random ideas and directions he’d give verbally.

I guess until the ToP Toyo was just doing what AT told him to with little to no deviation.

Then Moro and Granolah are full co-creations right? Toyo came with the initial idea, but they’re co-created nonetheless just like in Lee-Kirby partnership.
