Was Goku too arrogant/confident in early Super (BoG)?

Like, when he was gloating about how superior his SSJ3 was and saying he could go back down to 2 despite Kaio (who knows his power better than anyone) warning him he was in over his head? Goku's overconfidence was never much of a notable flaw and the last time he even overestimated his power seemed to be the Saiyan arc where he said he thought he reached the pinnacle of power after training with Kaio only for Vegeta to burst his bubble. Since then he's been quick to acknowledge when he was outclassed, such as when Karin blatantly told him Cell was ahead.

Thoughts?

Strangely so. I like to see Goku get a bit cocky as it happens sometimes, and I understand he might get complacent after becoming the strongest in the universe, but trash talking Beerus like he did is OOC. He acts like Dub Goku.

It's strange this keeps happening too when it's literally what Roshi has been trying to makr him avoid since Goku was 12.

We see Goku is always searching for stronger people, but post Boo there was nowhere to go. Goku was the strongest in the entire universe in all timelines, and had to train Boo's reincarnation to find a new rival.

I think the closest Goku got to this before was post Namek, except the way he reacts to the Androids is much more rational than the way he treats Beerus.

But hey, Beerus was just a spar for him, not a death battle with a bad guy, so I guess he can have some banter :idk

To give Goku some slack, I was convinced he would surpass Beerus' power before episode 40 so how bad could it get? :giraffe

Yes he was. It was to the point where he was out of character.

Definitely given he could only manage to beat a weaker version of his strongest foe with an attack that didn't even rely on his own strength.

Goku's attitude is out of character even under normal circumstances, it just stands even more in light of that context. Like, Goku has been shown to be confident, definitely, but he's so up his own ass when asking if he should dial it back down to Super Saiyan 2 for Beerus, lol.

It was just mild trash talk for hype & drama. He got fired up immediately after as if he was the one that had to prove himself.
