The Task Force didn't know that Watari's real identity was Quillsh Wammy until after his death, and Watari had his face hidden from Light until he joined the Task Force. But yeah, that's the solution I had in mind as well. If he doesn't know Watari's true name, he could secretly take a photo of him through a hidden camrea or something and found his identity online. Though, L would probably body search Light all the time when he enters the Task Force headquarters so Light would need to get Watari's face while out in the open.He could have written Watari's name and controlled him to write L's true name. Unless Light didn't know Watari's name. Or he could have controlled someone from their task force with the rule of stabbing L before dying. Lulz.
That goes against the whole premise that Misa never showed up and introduced Shinigami Eyes to the plot though. And I think Misa's memory wouldn't be good enough to remember a name she saw months ago only once.Maybe if he wrote Misa's name and specified she'd do everything possible to remember the names she had forgotten by forcing up her memories real hard.

Bruh it's literally in the title and in the thread. Misa never showed up in this scenario, nor anyone else with Shinigami Eyes for Light to make use of.Supposing Misa never showed up and took the story in the direction she did, how would Light have finished L off? Can you think of any solutions for Light being unable to insta-detect L's true name?
He can't use the Death Note like that, unless he also writes L name's down. The notebook will only kill the person whose name is written down, and if the conditions of death written affect the lives of others, the cause of death will default to a heart attack.Or he could have controlled someone from their task force with the rule of stabbing L before dying. Lulz.
In the movie they showed you can control someone to kill someone else, they both have to be written to be in the same place at the same time though, and the situation leading to the death has to be plausible but not overly specific. Movie Naomi was brainwashed to kill Light's gf Shiori accidentally with her FBI gun, and Shiori was written to die from a stray bullet. This led to Naomi being the most plausible person to have a gun in hand to shoot her with, since guns are illegal in Japan. Light also controlled an escaped convict to accidentally stab himself with his own knife, though 99% of the time he can't control a person to kill someone else.He can't use the Death Note like that, unless he also writes L name's down. He can't control someone saying "before dying, he'll kill the person he knows as L then"? Like, it can't control ppl to kill other people? Hmm, yeah, it's been many years since I've read DN.He can't use the Death Note like that, unless he also writes L name's down. L won't work since aliases do not work. On top of the fact that you can't specify a person's name to be included in the cause/situation of death. He explained this to Misa saying "Even if you were to write 'Light Yagami, falls in love with Misa Amane'," it would just ignore the Misa part and kill her separately in 40 seconds. He can't control someone saying "before dying, he'll kill the person he knows as L then"? No, none of that will work. You CANNOT kill someone with the Death Note if you don't know their name. You also can't do conditionals like "if X, then do Y." If it were this easy then there'd be no story. It could then say "take all the sugar [that L would put in his coffee] and if you are prevented from doing so, fire a shotgun at this person".
You can't control someone to take an attitude towards the other person if it means killing the other person? No, none of that will work. There are a few exceptions to this -- loopholes, if you will. The most common example people bring up is writing a pilot and his co-pilot's names in the Death Note and write the cause of death as them 9/11ing the plane they're flying; the Death Note will default to a heart attack because crashing the plane will affect the lives of the passengers, whose names weren't written. But killing the pilots dooms the plane anyway, so the passengers will likely still die. A loophole like this is the only way you can kill someone without writing their name. Basically, killing someone whose death directly results in another person's death, regardless of the cause of death for the one whose name was written.
Then it could write the name of local coffee makers and distributors to stop selling coffee altogether and do a throughout research on whoever nearby commercialized coffee and sugar, as well as outside the country... Which would kill L indirectly as he wouldn't have his stress relief. Done! No. The Death Note cannot be used to order assassinations. Again, if this were not the case, then the story could've been resolved in no time at all.
- Whether the cause of the individual's death is either a suicide or accident, if the death leads to the death of more than the intended, the person will simply die of a heart attack. This is to ensure that other lives are not influenced.
- Even though only one name is written in the Death Note, if it influences and causes other humans that are not written in it to die, the victim's cause of death will be a heart attack.
Did a quick research and if the accident is specified to have lasting consequences on another's death, then it'd result in heart attack all the same it seems, taking place after the plane was landed, since it'd have lasting consequences. The way probably would be to actually kill in an indirect way like "make doctors [names written] not to do an x surgery" and then it does lead to the one needing it, their death. No, none of that will work. You CANNOT kill someone with the Death Note if you don't know their name. You also can't do conditionals like "if X, then do Y." If it were this easy then there'd be no story.
