Sword and Shield were weird transitional titles that started as 3DS games and were hastily ported to the Switch, and gen 9 will be the new, "next gen" experience for Pokémon, including a near full or full Pokédex, vastly superior animations and visuals, etc.

Probably not that high since Nintendo can make more money by limiting the Pokedex for more DLC when that for Gen 8 still sold well, though this video presents a good insight in changes currently happen towards Nintendo and Game Freak for the better that will mean even if the next games aren't a return to form all around, they'll still most likely be far better than Sword and Shield.

I find it pretty odd that Nintendo's worst games tend to sell well in general. I also think it gives them the wrong idea.
