Given how often dawn imagery is coming up with luffy now, the ancient Kingdom being called the Dawn Kingdom would not be shocking at this point. Given that Luffy is associated so strongly with the sun and Blackbeard is darkness, the symbolism is pretty clear.

For the question. The D is a name those from the ancient Kingdom were once known by. This is confirmed by Imu themselves.
