Nintendo and modern gaming in general would look very different without Miyamoto and his works, not just Zelda and Mario, but Donkey Kong as well. Without his foundation I don't think Pokemon would exist.
It's true he is integral to Pokemon's existence in some-ways, but Pokemon is Satoshi Tajiri's brain-child at the end of the day & came from his imagination (and Ken Sugimori's designs).

So, Miyamoto wins twice now. Sales of Mario + Zelda are obscene.

That's true, but I don't think you can discount Miyamoto's influence. Miyamoto's franchises came without something like Pokemon whereas I feel that Miyamoto helped facilitate Pokemon

I'm not saying he had a direct or intimate involvement in Pokemon. I'm saying his work and his success enabled something like Pokemon to come about, exist and thrive. Without Mario and Zelda and Donkey Kong I don't think Pokemon would exist.

Shigeru Miyamoto > Akira Toriyama >>>>> Satoshi Tajiri

Nintendo and gaming in general wouldn't be where it is today without Miyamoto.

Toriyama redefined an entire genre and is one of the biggest contributors in popularizing anime in the west.

Pokemon is only good for making money.

Zelda is not that popular in Japan. In what countries/continents is Zelda popular in compared to not popular in? Pokemon is popular everywhere.

That is if you talk about success of-course, since genius =/= success.

How is it not that popular?

“Pokemon is only good for making money”? Wow! Just WOW!

Above I remember seeing sales numbers I’ll post them when I can, but they don’t compare to big video-game franchises in Japan IIRC.

Zelda - 1,690,000
Zelda II - 1,610,000
Link to the Past - 1,160,000

Link's Awakening - 540,000
Link's Awakening (GBC) - 314,000 (First Week: 49,513)
I was going to post the rest, but it's just way too long. But the only Zelda games to have sold a Million(+) are: Breath of the Wild (2,021,361), Legend of Zelda (1,690,000), Zelda II (1,610,000), A Link to the Past (1,160,000), Ocarina of Time (1,143,570), I believe.

I actually can't verify the last one or the first one. Breath of the Wild sold 688,044 & Ocarina of Time sold 824,953 supposedly, so that only leaves the other 3.
