Kaioshin was grasping at straws. Goku's evaluation was on a resting Gohan, so it's faulty from the start, and Goku even later outright says Gohan is weaker than Boo when he asks if Old Kaioshin's power will make Gohan stronger than Boo.

Saying "plot" doesn't work to explain a randomly large increase in a day because there's nothing in the plot that requires Gohan to be so strong. The power to beat Boo was supposed to come from Old Kaioshin, that's made clear.

So Goku never saw Gohan putting in his full effort when training? You're making the assumption that Gohan was suppressed while using the sword, which doesn't make any sense. Just because Gohan was resting when Goku made that statement doesn't mean that the statement was based on that power.

And who cares about the reason for the gain? Why can you accept Piccolo's gains for no reason on Kaio's planet, but not Gohan's?

I can accept it (and I used to), me accepting Piccolo's gains should show I have no problem with plot increases, I just have no reason to believe Gohan got so strong. The context of the scene is pretty clear, the sword was overestimated and the whole point of it was to release Old Kaioshin, who would actually make Gohan strong enough to beat Boo.

Saying Gohan got so strong is literally twisting Kaioshin overhyping the sword and Goku being reluctant to answer into Gohan growing multiple times stronger.

Goku isn't the type of guy to bullshit over something. I seriously doubt that he cares about the legend behind the sword, or the importance that Kaioshin placed in it. Remember what he said to Piccolo on the lookout? "You're trash." What did he say to Vegeta? "You have a lot of room to improve." What does he say to Gohan? "Can he win...? Hmm..."

There's no reason to ask the question at all if it wasn't worth thinking about.

The main point of the scene is to show that the sword was overhyped and to introduce old Kai but Supreme Kai stil said he got stronger and goku had to think about whether he could beat buu or not. For me that's enough to say gohan is stronger than goku and vegeta

Muscle strength alone doesn't raise ones Chi. Using the training in Dragonball Super as evidence is pointless, because Toriyama already said everyone in the Boo Saga had reached maximum strength and couldn't get any stronger. So yes, Goku squatting with weights on King Kai's planet is pointless.

The Z-Warriors all had room to toughen up more when Goku was traveling to Namek. They all reached the pinnacle of their power during the Boo Saga. At best, Gohan restored what he had as a Kid. Hence why he needed to be brought way past his limits to close the gap between himself and Goku.

Strength alone does not correlate to increased Chi, that simply doesn't work. Goku did alot of bullshitting during the Majin Boo Saga. So yes, Goku is the type of guy to bullshit over certain things. Just wondering if someone could defeat someone isn't confirmation for how strong they are.

Everybody was trying to over-hype the legend and trying to find a positive result in all their futile efforts. Goku essentially just shoves it in their face.

Gohan swang the sword better than Goku, so Z Gohan>Goku,Getes. If you don't want to attribute all that
increase to a single day training (even though also got many times stronger by chasing a cat for three days),
just give him a zenkai after Fat Buu (it was stated he was near death).
