I'm still curious about the WG ships. Lucci said they will only arrive if the straw hats defeat Kaido. Everybody would be too exhausted at that point so not sure how they will get out of that situation. There is also the Big Mom pirates still being in the vicinity so maybe they'll hold the WG...

Yeah, it's not ideal for me either but maybe Oda will do something interesting with it. It just feels like a contradiction to his development in the WCI arc.

For the most part he learned to master his gears and his Haki. Any gains in muscle strength was likely a side effect of the giant beasts he had to deal with on that island, so not nearly as great I would think.
