That's a good take. In the anime, Vegeta never said that Goku and Kid Buu turned out to be stronger than what he imagined, just that they were far out of his league. Although, it is interesting to think how two versions are that different.

Either it is Android 18 or 17 would get destroyed by Goku and Vegeta fighting together. Trunks and especially Piccolo are nothing worthy to add.
