It's kinda too convenient that the fishman who fought Sanji would follow him on land instead of just offing Luffy on the sea while he had a chance. He could end up with all the threat if he really thought about it for seconds.

I thought it was because Sanji breathed air into his gills. He couldn't breathe underwater.
True, there's that. But he could have caught his breath again on land and then returned to the sea.

He could have, yes. But it's made apparent that Arlong assembled a crew of Neanderthals.

It annoys me how sometimes the characters of OP get conveniently tied up or trapped by things, like fucking Johnny and Usopp tying Zoro in the boat or the crippled giant Dorry trapping Luffy with his house. It just seems like a convenient way of momentarily handicapping the Straw Hats.

Can we speculate that Dragon's Akuma no Mi is related to the weather? He saved Luffy from the execution by calling upon a big lightning and saved Luffy from Smoker by provoking a huge gale.

It's quite possible. He definitely has some control over the wind but I can't see the lightning coming from Dragon. That would make Enel's fruit kind of pointless. I think Luffy escaped that situation from sheer luck. But even the wind could be a product of advanced Conqueror's Haki that hasn't been seen yet. It's too early to speculate.

I was reading it. The spelling mistakes and poor quality translation were pissing me off.

Why didn't they just copy the Viz translation? Aside from faggoty name changes like Zolo and Eneru, I mean.

I'm not sure, but it seems improved by Loguetown. It was disgusting for the first 40 chapters of East Blue.

It's also curious that iirc a storm also saved Roger's crew when they were fighting Shiki.

So Mr. 3 wax wax robot-like figure allowed him to defeat someone with more than double Arlong's bounty, but then his wax is said to be as hard as iron and Arlong effortlessly bit through a canon ball...

Good thing I skipped ahead to the end of the Don Krieg fight lol. Was gonna skip to Arlong Park right away but I didn't know where that arc started specifically.

Shanks and Old Whitebeard caused some yuge weather changes when they clashed so I'd say it could definitely be Haki.

Don Krieg's fight was pretty boring to me.

Yeah it was basically Don Krieg talking shit, shooting darts and later getting clobbered as soon as his shitty steel armor broke. Was also pretty ironic that he called Luffy a monkey when he looks like a purple haired gorilla himself :alex2

Why was he so arrogant after being cucked by Mihawk? Mihawk could've ended his life then and there, but suddenly Don Krieg thought he could conquer the world after he left :ha

That's part of why I hate the Don Krieg arc so much. It'd be like if Ginyu showed up during the Piccolo Daimao arc, rekt Daimao's shit and let him live, and Daimao was still acting like he was the queen bitch of the universe :eek:dawg

Every villain in East Blue amounted to being nothing more than Lower Thugs™. Even Arlong despite being more powerful proved that he was incompetent, overconfident, and rounded up a crew of Neanderthals to back him up.

Arlong's ambition being to merely rule a backwater like East Blue when he was allegedly once on Jimbei's level is :punk :punk as well. People who had worse feats have gone on to enter the New World. Why the fuck is he so small time?

Maybe Arlong was 100x stronger in the past. Don't forget that Crocodile was also 100x weaker in Alabasta than he was even in Marineford :king

That was kind of the point of his character. Krieg's designed to be the kind of guy who's resigned himself to trying to conquer low hanging fruit in East Blue to be the big fish in a small pond after being proven he can't take on the Grand Line. This makes him a decent foil for Luffy's ideology of wanting to strive to the top and take on the big names of the Grand Line rather than run away from them, making it essential Luffy were capable of taking on someone who'd faced the Grand Line and lost.

This seems to intentionally be a running theme amongst East Blue's main villains - Buggy was the weak link of a Legendary crew and had ties to Shanks to make him a necessary stepping stone, Kuro represented complacency and fatigue compared to Luffy's ambition, Krieg reserved himself to taking on something he had confidence in controlling rather than striving forward and Arlong was the same but with more bragging rights by having actually come from the Grand Line. That's not to say the East Blue villains are great or anything (unless comparing them to the disappointment Kaido and his crew have become), but they do have a clear narrative purpose to their goals of intentionally targeting small fry and acting as though they're hot shit by limiting themselves to easy targets.

To be fair, most later translations (as well as some level of retconning in Part 2) show Yosaku was referring to their rank rather than power.
