Whilst I agree that flashbacks in general tend to not be too engaging due to a lack of tension, would you say that's entirely so for this case? After all, you can say the same for the Golden Age Arc of Berserk due to already knowing what would happen to Guts and Griffith, yet characterisation saves it. I'd say that's the case here as well, since we don't get told about the fate of Byron or Arthur before the flashback.
Also, would you say it's at least the most concise and interesting depiction of Vampires in fiction?
I have yet to read past volume 1 of Mars Chronicle due to wanting to read them physically, so I can't say my thoughts on whether or not it's indeed shit. Would you say the ending of Last Order was solid enough that you could remove part 3 from your headcannon in much the same way as how HnK's first part can be viewed entirely in solitude?
