He only said that they were awful for training if overused. It's also not just the Gravity that pushes them above that level. There's also the air being thin as pointed out by Trunks, something beyond even the conditions outside on Kami's temple for Trunks to bother pointing it out. Trunks also commented how hot it was, which wouldn't have been a major factor in Gohan's 3 year training.

Except he gained a shit ton of power in the Rosat, so no.

After he broke the Super Saiyan wall.. yes. Prior to that he made no gains. He effectively pushed through his limitations when he turned SSJ, then he and Goku were both maxed out after the training as stated.

Goku prioritized turning Gohan SSJ before training, so obviously training as a SSJ provides much better gains too.

Yeah, i ignored the thin air because i thought it was one of the bad things of the Rosat. I don't see how the air conditions can possibly help on training.

Didn't Popo explain that it helps one avoid wasteful movements because the air is scarce? Although yeah, irl the lack of oxygen would just make workouts less effective.

It's kind of weird how training as SSJ seems to wield better gains than training in base. Gohan doesn't think sparring with Goten is good until he reveals to be a SSJ.

Gohan said the blows from SSJ2 Goku/Vegeta would have much much higher damage output, so I assume that training as SSJ compared to Base would be the same. It would be more effective to spar in a form that's more taxing on the body I suppose.

Not the strain specifically, sorry. Just the damage output being 50x more powerful in every blow would be much tougher on the opposing body, resulting in greater gains.

This is based off of nothing, but I always assumed Goku and Piccolo got down to the real sparring whenever Gohan went to sleep. Looking at Piccolo's huge increase tells me he fought Super Saiyan Goku a lot more than Gohan did.

Do you guys think the manga title page showing Piccolo and Gohan fighting SSJ Goku could imply that Goku could actually suppress?

No. He can just not hit them as hard as he could.

When I think of suppression, I think of them actually making their power go down.

When I think of using a certain amount of effort, I just think of Raditz. A fucker that could gradually control the power in his attacks and yet be clueless on suppression and increased power.

Yeah if Vegeta and Piccolo can think lowering your power to everyday levels is something entirely new for SSJs it's clear expert suppression was impossible with the SSJ form.

Does it mean anything when pre RoSaT SSJs are drawn without an aura?

Doesn't Goku drop his aura mid-fight with Freeza? I don't think it means that much.

Yeah, i think that was the case too. Just wanted to see what the others think.
And on filler Goku was shown sparring in base with Gohan, if that's worth something. It's weird why he'd hold back against Gohan, though. He told Chi-Chi that Gohan would be useful against the Androids, but he was as useful as the earthlings there.
