The other question is how the fuck did Vegeta hear anything? He said the Androids were surprised that Goku was a Super Saiyan. The only one who expressed surprise was Gero--unless Vegeta was just going off of their body language.

I'm guessing he just made a link between Galu's pure heart (evidenced to him by the Kinto'un and Akkumite Beam events) pieced together with Goku being the only one of the Saiyans to achieve it at the time.

Either that, or Enma let Kuririn hear in on Goku's SSJ speech. 2

Is there a in-universe explanation for why Gohan didn't get the same gains as Piccolo during the 3 years?

Not really, unless Piccolo's hax gainz on Kaio's planet are any indication of him being able to make more gains than other characters somehow. Maybe being a product of two Namekians fusing allowed him to naturally progress quicker than other fighters.

Gohan was likely at his limits. He had his potential unlocked by the fat fuck and even received massive zenkais on top of that. He was probably at his temporary max.

It was a different, tougher training regime. He could've still hit his current limit from the previous regime of typical sparring and still make big strides in the Rosat due to the furthered intensity, seeing as how his body had never handled Gravity training before.

As I've said before in a similar topic, it's like lifting weights. You can't expect to make further gains in strength just by sticking to the same weight or same intensity of training. You've got to either increase the weight or the intensity, which the Rosat certainly is compared to standard Earth training.

Didn't Goku say the conditions at the Rosat were awful? Aside from the gravity, i don't see the Rosat training being any better than the earth's.
