Super's canon became highly suspect when they acknowledged the Ginyu Frog filler that was present in Z and in Kai but not the manga. Now that they're acknowledging Yamcha's baseball career, it's probably fair to say it counts as a continuation or midquel of Z.Kamikaze Pyro said:I actually have no knowledge of "canon" works when it comes to Super. I know the manga is held in higher regards to quality, but I was under the impression the anime came first, thus was default canon.
Anime is canon. According to official material, the manga is an adaption of the anime.Kamikaze Pyro said:I actually have no knowledge of "canon" works when it comes to Super. Proof? I have never heard the manga is an adaptation of the anime. That doesn't make any sense.xmysticgohanx said:Anime is canon. These are mini arcs, not filler
Filler implies non canon in this context.Fantastische Hure said:Proof? I have never heard the manga is an adaptation of the anime. That doesn't make any sense.xmysticgohanx said:Anime is canon. Filler, because they fill time until the real saga happens.
He obviously wants to promote the TV-show, so he can make more money. If he had to promote the manga, he'd probably say "keep reading the manga".xmysticgohanx said:Filler implies non canon in this context.Fantastische Hure said:Proof? Did a look on Kanzenshuu's news archives:
Toriyama says to "watch the tv show" which could mean it's primary canon. Shaky I know but here's the main part: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2015/06/19/akira-toriyama-dragon-ball-super-comments-in-august-v-jump/
After rereading that it's hard to know if it's Kanzenshuu's own language that calls it an adaption rather than the original picture. I should ask them
And we've gotten newer information since then that basically confirms what I said above: both the anime and manga get the same outline that then gets adapted into their respective mediums. Toriyama is more involved with the manga which was reinforced by a joint interview with Toyotaro & Toriyama and more comments by Toyotaro just a month ago.xmysticgohanx said:Filler implies non canon in this context.

The manga started out first anyway and was in front till Frost went into his final form so that logic doesn't hold up. Just cause some stuff from the anime isn't in Toriyammers outline doesn't mean it doesn't turn into canon.Fantastische Hure said:He obviously wants to promote the TV-show, so he can make more money. I very much doubt next arc has any involvement by AT and that's what most people judge "canon" by. The next real saga will probably start early next year and AT might promote that again like with the Future Trunks saga.
The manga will be ahead of the anime soon, does that then mean the anime is adapting the manga since the manga comes before the anime?
Exactly.
Well you did say the manga is an adaptation of the anime which doesn't make sense. k k kxmysticgohanx said:The manga started out first anyway and was in front till Frost went into his final form so that logic doesn't hold up. Official material said manga wasn't canon?xmysticgohanx said:That's what the official material says or at least how Kanzenshuu words it. If it helps make more sense, the tv show was announced first
