Gero's scanning abilities

This is a thread that I can always come back to. Is there any way to make sense of this? We see sick SSJ Goku transform and Gero reads his power level. He talks down to Goku and says that 19 can handle that level of power, and is stunned when 19 is getting outclassed.



But then it appears that Gero is using some sort of algorithm to calculate Goku's power:



What the fuck kind of data is he talking about? He has no knowledge of Super Saiyan, how would any algorithm calculate Goku's power? Why would he not have an accurate scanner like Android 16 had?

16’s scanner probably depends on the infinite energy generator to run. 19 and 20 don’t have the batteries for that.

Goku vs 19 could be related to what Piccolo says later about using energy in bursts, but I’m not sure. SSJ already has Goku in a battle stance with most of Ki coming out, so it’s not like the difference could be so big.

I always liked the idea Gero’s scouter maxes out at 100,000,000 so he can’t tell Goku is actually at 200,000,000 (random numbers).

It doesn't seem to be the case here though because Piccolo could tell right away there was something wrong with Goku, and Tenshinhan was glazing Goku's power. That was no doubt Goku's full power on display.

This would be pretty boneheaded for the greatest genius in the world though. He's exactly at the top reading of the limit on the scale which means he can't be a single point beyond that. Sounds like an assumption a genius would make.

Sick Goku never came close to displaying Goku's full power. Tien's shock at Goku's power is just that Sick Goku is so far above Yardrat Goku, it's impressive.

GSM has a good theory, in essence, Gero has a diminishing return on top end powers where he's reading numbers that are inaccurate. The projected data limits his scouters top end. Just like GSM said.

Remember, who are the powers that Gero misread? Pretty much Vegeta is the only one.

You'd have to double check me but check this out. There's two differences here.

The only one who actually breaks the power reading ability is Vegeta. Everyone else can be read accurately. Now, Piccolo tricks him with his suppression, but literally only Vegeta's full power is beyond his ability.

Double check that theory, I think it's probably going to be gold for us in the future.

So how do you explain him saying 19 can handle Super Saiyan Goku? That seemed like a failed power reading as well, even if you assume he's taking 19 absorbing Goku's ki into account.

Ah, I think you are right. He senses Goku, then gives a reading, then is shocked by the reading.

I'm wrong here then.

Sick Goku is the limit. His reading seems to be able to determine that Vegeta > Sick Goku, but there's diminishing returns here.

So it's kind of like something like this.

Sick Goku Reading 650
Actual 1,000

Vegeta Reading 1,250
Actual 1,500

Or something like that.

Did Gero even know Vegeta > Goku? He says Vegeta will lose because Goku lost.

I wish Gero had knowledge of Super Saiyan. It would make much more sense that he’s that powerful.
