Kid Goku > Adult Goku post Freeza in-terms of intelligence anyway. :troll :troll :troll

I don't think so about Luffy. I think one of the most obvious differences is that Luffy is from the human race and grew-up around people unlike Goku who until he was 12 only knew his Grand-apa Gohan (not counting the sheeeet know as DB Minus). He clearly understands humans. One of the early examples being Luffy helping Coby get into the Marines and him helping Coby become more independent. He even says so that what he did will help Coby become more independent in the future (instead of always relying on Luffy for help) and both Coby, Zoro and even Marines I think knew that.

Another one is him saying in Alabasta that it's naive and too idealistic for no-one to die in war because people die in his words. Which is quite true death is a natural part of war. Or in the same saga saying half-way through that he doesn't want to go to the Rebels' bases because they are pirates so what are they really going to do there? Just stand there and listen to Vivi telling the Rebels and everyone to stop? He knew that they could help but had to do something-else.

Alabasta Luffy > Post-Skypiea Luffy in intelligence as well tho'. :CC

Whilst those are fair points for Luffy, the problem is that it's not consistent with how he acts in later arcs. Luffy indeed made sense as a character during East Blue and Alabasta, but after that these traits show up far less as his lack of knowledge becomes overplayed and his idealistic nature of "I will protect my nakama!" stops him from getting any development from thereon, as well as being hypocritical of how he acted in Alabasta. The point of Luffy indeed having areas in which he stands superior to Goku would've made sense had his character writing and development remained consistent after Alabasta, but sadly that wasn't the case.

"MAAAAHHHHH NAKAMAAAAAAAA!!!!" (which is an exaggeration btw. I don't think so.) is more selfish than Goku who doesn't give a fack about any-one as long as he has a good fight.

Another difference.

> Doesn't give a fack about anyone.
> Most iconic transformation was through Galu caring about someone.

OK. I'll give you that. All the way upto the Freeza Saga he cared. True, but even then it's only to an extent. After-all he himself admitted that he wanted selfishly Kuririn to let Vegeta go even-though he swore he'll return later destroy the earth. So a good fight still puts everyone-else in danger. After the Freeza Saga he stopped giving a fack all-together though.

To be fair, it wasn't until after Kuririn conceded to follow Goku's advice that Vegeta said he'd return to kill everyone and without Oozaru, it was still in the realm of possibility Goku could handle him once he'd healed. Still very selfish, but not completely out of control as most of Goku's bad decisions from the Cell Arc and onwards were though.

I will never believe that. And no-one goes over 9000 level of stupidness like Goku does nowadays.

I doubt it. Oda may have made an 'objectively' better series but Toriyama's series is more recognizable and influential (even Oda is heavily influenced by Dragon Ball himself).

Either way, Toriyama should be happy for Oda.

More recognisable name maybe but most people don't know how AT even looks because he's a hermit and I'd only say he's more well known world-wide in Japan I doubt most children even know who AT is other than maybe through DB-Super now where-as they can see One-Piece everywhere including weekly in WSJ.
