Pokémon Shiny Thread

Because I'm playing a lot of Pokémon and plan to play more in the near future, I figured I would document my past and future random shiny encounters.


2016:
Omega Ruby, shiny Purple Wailmer caught while looking for Lucky Eggs

2019:
HeartGold, shiny Green Golbat caught in the woods.

2020:
Emerald (Or Ruby idk) shiny Gloom caught somewhere while training

2022:
Black, shiny Swallow found while training my Samurott

These are all the ones I currently remember. I still have all of them except for the Wailmer, that save file is long gone.

I think I've come across at least 20 shiny Pokemon in my lifetime.

Not counting the static Gyarados from gen 2. Pretty sure these are the only ones I found since I've been playing since I was around 7/8 years old.

First was a shiny Igglybuff in Crystal from the daycare egg. Didn't know it was shiny because I was young as shit and didn't really use the internet. Released it because I wanted an Elekid. 2nd didn't come until Omega Ruby while I was chaining for a Ralts with a good nature. Third one was in Shield when I found a shiny Zigzagoon in a raid den. Then I got a shiny Umbreon in the wild area not too long after. 5th was a Luxio I randomly found just running around in Legends: Arceus. Sixth was a Mareep about 30 minutes in my playthrough in Scarlett. 7th was a Lokix I randomly found at the end of my playthrough of Scarlett. My most recent one was a Grimer I found while farming items during the first part of the DLC.

I found others in between these on ROMs but I'm not counting those.

I’ve seen videos of people documenting themselves trying to catch a shiny for fucking months or even longer.

Like… it’s just a pallet swap. It ain’t all that.

I agree, and the likelihood of them being any better or worse in battle than any other normal Pokemon is the same as before.

Honestly they look even uglier half the time.

Shiny's are just to flex honestly. I don't see how some people have the patience to commit all this time into shiny hunting. Thankfully it gets a little easier with each new generation. All of mine were just dumb luck.

I know a story of one guy who tried getting a shiny Phione, and the amount of time it had to take him to get that is most likely ridiculous even when it comes to shiny hunting in general.

A lot of Pokétubers have made it their job so it makes sense. For a regular guy though idk why you'd sit through 10,000 encounters.
