I'm actually enjoying this arc a lot. I don't like that the only way they can shake Big Mom is baking a cake though.

She kept going back and forth between being in love with Sanji and wanting to torture/kill him and the Straw Hats, so yeah, Lunch's personality is more consistent than her's.

Oda is weird. This chapter is supposed to come out Monday. The magazine where Sabo's bounty is revealed officially released today.

So a story arc that should've had Sanji as the main focus devolves into yet another arc in which the supporting character's struggle is shafted by having Luffy take on a villain in a climactic showdown. Sure, it's somewhat different from Arlong Park and Enies Lobby due to the battle not being against either of the arc's main villains, but it's still repetitive to see Luffy be the only one involved.

Because the Shonentards wouldn't be happy if someone other than the main character had the climactic fight of this arc.

Because the ship was fucked otherwise? Like coup de burst is great and all, but Katekuri was still on the ship. They have to fight him eventually.

And what's to say sanji doesn't get a fight in this arc, his particular storyline hasn't even been touched yet

Ugh, Luffy not using Gear 4th immediately despite being outmatched otherwise takes a few points off this arc's overall quality. It's as dumb as Goku and Vegeta constantly fighting in their base form in the ToP.

I'm not really keeping up with the manga or anything so I wouldn't know what's going on but doesn't Gear 4th have a recharge time or something?

Yeah it makes sense for Luffy to feel out his opponent before going gear 4. Gear four seems to be worse on him than gear 2 was originally. Not to mention he can't just force himself to use it when it reaches it's limit like he at enies lobby.

He's going to need something more than regular gear 4 to get out of this anyway. He barely beat Cracker with Nami's help. Katakuri is far stronger and has godlike observation haki.

It does, but it's well past the minimum recharge time now, since it's been almost an entire day since he last used it

He would've already known how strong Katakuri was from their first clash at the Wedding Ceremony. Had Katakuri been seriously going for the kill, Luffy would be dead by now, so there's no real reason for him to hold back his trump card, regardless of the consequences.

When has luffy ever not held back his trump cards though? He'll continually try ineffective attacks long after they're proven useless. And their brief clash at the wedding really doesn't give us any indication of how powerful he really was.
