Entertaining in his personality and strategies, yet beyond intelligence, there isn't much depth to his character. He develops somewhat in terms of his view of Light, but we never get a thorough grasp on his goals and their changes beyond his selfish desire of wanting to prove his justice by beating Kira.

What about Monkey D. Luffy ?
Was entertaining for the first few arcs, but was still just a less interesting Goku clone due to his idiocy being unfounded. Goku's lack of intelligence was a lack of experience of the outside world, at least in part 1. Luffy's is just...because he's a retard about everything other than fighting.
Marineford was the chance for him to finally change and become a developed character, yet after the timeskip he's still making the same mistakes as always, which Zoro has even called him out on. You'd think someone who'd lost one of those dearest to him would've learnt to think more critically, but the most his mindsets developed is going from wanting everyone to have a banquet of meat to wanting all the meat himself, and this isn't some allegory to power.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'll take your word for it.

Edward is one of the most well rounded protagonists in Shonen, having a pretty solid development throughout his journey. From his conflict with his views on God to his self-sufficient self learning to accept the aid of others beyond slight problem fixes, Ed's journey is quite consistent. He's also quite the intelligent and strategic protagonists for one in a battle Shonen, such as his performance of Greed and better yet, the series never pushes this in your face like with most other series with "smart" characters. Along with this, his insistence to admit his mistakes or play an act for the greater good (eg. crushing Rose's beliefs to free her from Cornello's control) and to accept alliances with those he has problems with such as Hoheinhem or Scar further show this, moreso by the constant tension between them being a lot more consistent than with many other Shonen (eg. Many characters kind've glossing over Vegeta's past in DBZ or Hiei autmatically being accepted into the main group in Yu Yu Hakusho).
Overall, a very consistent and developed character. My only complaint with Ed is that his anger at being called short was too overused.

One thing that sets Luffy aside from Goku is that, Luffy at-least cares for someone. Current Goku only does that when the plot calls for that, even-though he used to when he was a child and as a young adult. Luffy actually cries quite a few times.

Death isn't permanent in Dragon Ball though. Goku's change in attachment in that regard has more to do with how much more plot armour the characters in DB got as the series progressed.

That, and GT/Super Galu is better off being ignored entirely when reviewing his character.

9 when he's the centre of the scene, 2 if there's another annoying character in the episode like...pretty much every new ToP character.

He was a very interesting anti-hero in part 1, always coming up with good, realistic strategies and there being a genuine character arc of his personality before and after using the Death Note, which is fully shown when he lost his memories. However, his stupidity in the finale was too out of character and ruined the ending.

What do you think of the God concept in DragonBall Super? At this point honestly I'd just say they should have gone with Super-Saiyan 4 or 5 or something. The God branch of transformations makes no sense.

If we're talking about the Super Saiyan God form and variations, they're completely dumb due to the method they're achieved. I like their in battle portrayal in the manga, but that doesn't excuse the form being gained just by something as cheap as a few Saiyans holding hands. Worst idea for a power up in the entirety of the DB franchise right there.

As for the God hierarchy, I'm not fond of it. Something like this already contradicts what was contradicted by the Kaioshin, since before them it was made apparent that Kaio was the highest God and they shouldn't have retconned this even further into the grave by having many beings above the Kaioshin. It also doesn't help that this power structure seems somewhat similar to that of Bleach, which is never a good source for inspiration.

Kaio bullshitting about being the highest god makes sense though since he said before that Planet vagina Namek wasn't part of his jurisdiction in the Freeza arc. Even though it's still pretty much a retcon (although AT did design the other Kaios for the afterlife filler and used one in the Boo arc not long after).

I have no problem with there being other Kaio, since Saichoro even referred to Kaio as the Kaio of the North Quadrant iirc, but neither Dai Kaio nor the Kaioshin had any foreshadowing and their role happened too long after to seem like a reasonable withholding of information.

Well, nobody really went into space for the entirety of the Cell arc and Kaio wasn't really incolved with it until the CG portion.

What do you think about Monogatari (the series in general) ?
From what I've seen of it, the series is just a harem masquerading as a rule of cool type series, though made somewhat pretentious by it's fans trying to perceive it as deep. Bakemonogatari seems worth a watch if you don't analyse it deeply, though the rest seem nothing more than mediocre.
