Super Hero only grossed about 2.1 billion yen after being out for a month, so it's probably looking at 2~2.25 billion yen in Japanese theaters, 2.3 bil tops. Adjusting for inflation, that isn't more than the likes of Bio-Broly and about 2/3rds of Fukkatsu no F.
Even considering that it missed the Golden Week at the start of May due to the hack at Toei, the movie isn't doing well in theaters - grossing nowhere near as much as the previous 2010s movie trio. Why do you guys think this is?
Personally I'd say disappointing fans who wanted a full return of Cell rather than that botched abomination, the conversion to full CG and the contrived way in which Goku and Vegeta were written out of the story (as well as disappointing Gotenks fans) all contributed. Not to mention there's been no televised anime for more than 4 years now. It's a shame because a lot of people have been shrilling for a big Gohan return ever since Super started and with this movie's failure to do well at the box office, they might start to play it safe and make it the Goku, Vegeta, Broly and Freeza show.
