Why wouldn't we take it seriously?

Because he was proven wrong many times. That's because Goku is full of surprise here, always have a mircacle.

It could be that Goku when he fought/defeated Nam rivalled Master-Roshi, some-what (not all that much).

Hmm, true. This has somewhat changed my thoughts on my placements for the 21st. How would you say something like this looks:

Goku (Serious): 100

Jackie Chun (Serious): 98

Goku (@Nam): 93

Nam: 87

Jackie Chun (@Krillin): 80

Krillin: 65
That seems quite right, I think.

What does that have to do with Master-Roshi and Nam, though?

Chapter: 46, P5.4-5
Context: talking to Namu
Kame-sennin: “Through their training, those two gained more and more power, even more so than I imagined…Goku in particular is aided by his giftedness, what you might call his natural instincts, and hides unbelievable power. You fought him, so you should know that well…”

Yeah. What does that mean in this case, though?

I think that just means Goku is very strong already.

Nam said he might have missed the pressure points when he cross attacked Goku.

He just think he missed it because he can't believe Goku manage to wake up from it since he said it would take 10 days for someone to wake up from that move.

Although looking-back at the quote I say that, that quote doesn't really have to mean Goku didn't use full-power before.

He just says "Me neither", when Master-Roshi says he won't hold-back. That doesn't really have to mean he didn't use full-power, before but that could.

Goku was definitely serious but he was simply stronger than Nam on top of his extreme natural durability and tenacity (which gave him the win).

Jackie Chun was about to throw up after seeing Goku beat Nam and he was around the same level as Goku.

Yeah I think Goku used full power against Namu. The conversation was like Roshi saying he wouldn't hold back and Goku saying him neither. I don't think it has to imply Goku was necessarily holding back against Namu. There's also Roshi being worried he could lose to Goku after Namu's defeat.

2kwel4u is good too, but Fantastische Hure is just unbeatable.
