when u'd say the quality decreased??? i'd probably say shortly after they went digital

def. before episode 400 of anything, tho

I think quality was still good around the time Vermouth revealed she was posing as one of Conan's teachers or some crap but it went severely downhill somewhere around the halfway mark of where they are now, yah. Mostly because we've seen so much of Conan turning back to his grown up form once every 100 episodes and still accomplishing nothing before the medicine wears off, and whatnot.

wasn't that jodie who was ran's & sonoko's teacher???

but yeah, probably some-time after that

i'd probably consider the beginning to somewhere in the 300s the classic-era of the series

Nah it wasn't Jody, that was a red herring and it was some male teacher she was posing as (Vermouth tends to disguise herself as a male mostly anyway).

It was great for the first 200 or so episodes, just got old when it became many times longer than that. Until episode 300 or so I could actually see them getting a lead on the boss of the BO and defeating him sometime, now it really seems like the author won't put down his pen until he's 90 or something.

For some-reason I can't Vermouth as much, even-though she did appear up-to where I watched.

I don't have the problem with the series being long, but I do think the cases got worse. I mean pre-Haibara was there a lot of plot-progression? Many wouldn't consider that but is still considered to be around the greatest time/era of the manga. I think the cases were just that memorable and good then, too. Even the Anime-Originals were good around that time.

Nowadays something seems off.

Anime industry as a whole has become kind of stagnant compared to the old days, I think. That's why most anime are 13-26 episode productions after the early 2000s, since they're kind of underfunded and it isn't that profitable anymore.

But yeah, that's another problem with really long shows in general. Unless you change up the villains, you're inevitably writing yourself into hundreds of filler episodes and nonclimaxes since the main villain's defeat basically means you're almost at the end. Popular shonen can be repetitive since they follow tropes every arc but changing up the villain and the main cast at least lessens that effect.

If he wants to keep writing Detective-Conan, one thing he could do is end the series and then just write cases. Like Detective-Conan "the missing cases" or "un-told stories/cases" or what-ever. That'd make everyone happy I think.

Also is the series ending anytime soon?

He said he might end it around volume 100 or something but he's also said it might last until he dies, so I really can't say. Perhaps 22 years writing the same series can have dat Toriyama effect of not remembering any past interviews :troll

If he enjoys that, then kewl.

His ex-wife (voice-actor) knows the ending though I think.

There was something-else I wanted to ask but forgot. :troll :troll :troll

Yeah he married the Conan actress and told her the identity of the boss apparently, but she seems to care enough about the series to not give it away to piss him off or something just because he divorced her :troll

I do wonder why they divorced, though. Probably nothing to do with work.

Also if 100 volumes is true, then how long is it until 100 volumes? As in time/years.

I think they're already past volume 85, so if he didn't just change his mind when he said he would write until he dies, then 2-3 years I reckon. But I have a feeling it'll go on at least another 10 years even if he plans to end it. After this much time just foreshadowing the boss's right hand man finishing the series up that fast would make it feel very rushed.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with that. Can't never have too much of a good thing.

Also when we were talking about bad motives, did you see the episode (was canon) in which this fellow was terrorising the town & stabbed ppl (& might have tried to kill them) & when they asked him why he did it, he said bcoz his normal life was boring??? might have been the 1st rly unredeemable character (from the culprits).

Well in a way that's a realistic motive, a lot of mall shooters and spree killers pretty much got so tired of their everyday lives that they resorted to going out with a bang after all.

that's true

in a way i wish they'd also do psychopaths in the series maybe, but i know that's a shonen series so probably not

but real psychopaths'd be interesting for sure

also what did you think of the 1/2/2.5 hour specials??? i think they were the best. i rly liked both heiji cases i watched & 1 of my all-time fav.s the 20 year old symphony or something

They're usually alright, though I've never seen that symphony one. I liked the one where Conan almost subdued Vermouth and got the boss's phone number a lot, even though it was in the digital era and she managed to one up him in the end.

the symphony 1 is gr9

they are on a ship & it's abt a murder that was committed 20 years ago & something happens to heiji

i'd watch that

was the vermouth 1 somewhere around the 300s??? bcoz somewhere there is where the quality declines but before was still good

then i'd still consider around the good-era

do u have any idea or theory on how only a year passed since the beginning of the series??? could some of the cases not directly advancing the plot happen in some alternate-universe???

Hasn't even been a year I believe since Conan's still in the same grade, but the flashback episode where Shinichi and Ran save a disguised Vermouth in New York happens a year before the events of the series.
