Hasn't even been a year I believe since Conan's still in the same grade, but the flashback episode where Shinichi and Ran save a disguised Vermouth in New York happens a year before the events of the series.
in the aquarium case (which was in january of 2014 i think), ran mentions that it's been a year since that happened (shinichi being away)

i don't know whether there is anyway of making that work, even-tho that's good that the festivals were only done once in that sense bcoz that doesn't add to the confusion

Maybe that was anime filler, IDK. There's logically no way of making sense of the passage of time in this series when they've had like 30 winters already without anybody aging a day.

the aquarium case was canon, but i believe i read that the seasons are just wtvr is outside the window for him to draw

at-least they didn't repeat festivals or stuff like the Valentine's Day more than once, keeps that somewot consistent

I dunno, I'd have to check the manga to see if that 1 year line was there, since I think anime writers usually care less about continuity than the author since most animes always end up with contradictions compared to the source material.

i think i can basically confirm that

i remember seeing a screen-shot of the manga-panel & every1 says that. i haven't seen any1 deny that.

that's weird tho. that's not a floating time-line, but time is kept conveniently at where the author needs time. i guess you can't blame him, tho that's for the story-telling after-all.

Maybe he plans to make one of the characters' birthdays a huge plot point so he's making mention of a year passing? I dunno

that might be actually

or he just doesn't want conan to age & start to look like shinichi (when he shrinked) to every1

also probably wants to keep that the way he originally wanted to end the series (& that was very early), so u can't make them skip like 3 years, even-tho that'd for sure raise the tension

Yeah if he skipped like 3 years Ran would already have graduated high school and Conan would still be like 9-10 years old, that'd surely be problematic.

ok, i know u are being sarcastic

but yeah, they could technically move forward at-least a few years, but i guess he doesn't want conan to look for them forever (even-tho in real-time he has) or wants him to come-off looking not so intelligent against the boss of the organization

Wasn't really being sarcastic, thought that'd really be problematic if Ran and Heiji etc. are practically adults and Conan's still stuck in elementary school. If anything the black organization looks extremely incompetent for not figuring out Shinichi ain't dead when he showed up in school and in public (even going overseas on his passport) a few times.

I didn't think of that that way, but yeah there's truth to that. He'd basically be stuck in elementary-school until he figures-out the boss. The others'd (Ran & Heiji & so-on) probably move-on with their busy adult-lives.

Did Shinichi also travel later, after he got shrunk? I don't think I've seen up-to those episodes.

Yeah Shinichi had to return to his teenager form to go to London one time since "Conan" is a nonexistent person with no passport.

I don't think I saw that even-though I did hear about that. Even-though if the professor was really intelligent why didn't he just forge them passports? :troll :troll :troll

The professor seemed suspect at times, but he was already denied.

Come to think of that, I remember the episode Shinichi's 1st case in a plane. I actually thought that was rly well-done. How they showed he didn't always immediately think of the convoluted ways of crime.

Anyone's guess, but the most ridiculous theories i've heard are that it's really Gin prior to becoming young himself (lol) and he now has a split personality that acts as the boss, but since the author said only his full name has appeared and not that he himself has appeared, I assume it's one of those passerby characters that's appeared in the anime since the VA of Conan seems to have already known who he is when she was told his identity or whatever.

that sounds weird

but i heard some ppl think it's that old fellow who appeared in the baron-case (from the 1 i remember, he was also in another 1 i think). he pretended to be blind. his name was kenchihiro or something

Yeah the author said his full name at least appeared fairly recently, so I doubt it's some guy from like 400 chapters back who we barely see after that. Plus, the crowd is the best way to hide an elusive character, where they can blend in easily without getting attention.

fairly recently??? when did he say that???

but yeah, i agree the best way to hide the character is just to make him 1 of the crowd

i also heard theories that it could be sonoko's father

i thought maybe at 1st he thought of making kogoro mouri or professor agasa the boss, but after they asked he kept changing his thoughts on the matter bcoz he wanted it to be a surprise but didn't want to lie to readers, even-tho if he did change the boss, then early hints'd be irrelevant now

I don't think he changed the boss himself, as it'd be too tedious to change the main villain of the series whose mystery you've been building up for over a decade, I just think he stopped taking questions about him since it'd ruin the series if a lot of ppl found out and a lot of the speculations were idiotic as hell, like Conan/Shinichi really being the boss (lol) or Kogoro, Agasa, Shinichi's dad and even Haibara and the police chief guy.

I think he said that sometime in the 2010s, 2011-2014 maybe.
