Obviously not in an intellectual or book-intelligence kind-of way, because if so AT most likely wouldn't even be in this conversation.

Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, or Zelda...

Wow... This is extremely difficult to answer.

I want to believe Zelda had a bigger impact in the grand scheme of things, though.

Shigeru Miyamoto > Akira Toriyama > Satoshi Tajiri

Dragon Ball is on the same level of quality as Mario and Pokemon, but Zelda is to Mario and Pokemon what One Piece is to Dragon Ball.

How do you know Zelda & Mario inspired Pokemon (I don't think so directly anyway). Of-course he was mentored by the creator though, so there sure might be some influence but not directly.

Akira Toriyama also has designing credits for Dragon-Quest & Chrono-Trigger, but those are only designing credits so nothing that much all things considered (Dragon-Quest also looks too similar to DragonBall in that regard anyway).

Zelda is not that popular in Japan. In what countries/continents is Zelda popular in compared to not popular in? Pokemon is popular everywhere.

That is if you talk about success of-course, since genius =/= success.

Mario too. In-fact Shigeru Miyamoto is Satoshi Tajiri's mentor/senpai, so that could count too toward the result.
Hmm, interesting. In my mind, Mario didn't even come up... I don't know whether it's subjective or objective, however, Zelda seems more prominent, to me at least. I must associate Miyamoto only with Zelda.

I thought Mario was the one work synonymous with Shigeru Miyamoto.
I hold the Zelda franchise very dear to my heart. I don't really care for Mario much. Then, the answer is that this is subjective, for me.

Miyamoto wins, then.

Mods, please close this thread, as the verdict is final.

I was looking at it from the perspective of impact on the world. In my opinion, I believe the Zelda franchise had a bigger impact on the world than the Dragon Ball franchise. I love both franchises to death, though.

I didn't compare games & manga. I compared the people behind them.
Sure, but in order to do that you'd have to compare the results of their work output, which are games and manga.

That's one good way to look at it.

And which of their works had greater impact on the world and as they intended. Who is a greater master behind what they did? Maybe look at it in those ways or any way you see fit.
