It really isn't much of a feat. Base Gotenks got his ass beat and was able to return because Boo allowed him to. If Boo wanted to end Gotenks, he would've never returned. That says more about Boo's incompetence than Base Gotenks' incredible power.

Not that I doubt he's above the Super Saiyan 2's. I'm just saying the whole, "Base Gotenks was able to get back to the lookout when the guy who blew himself up couldn't" sucks.

To be fair, if it wasn't for Trunks interfering, Vegeta would've most likely die as he was trap in Boo's "gumball" and Boo was laying the smackdown on Vegeta's ass.

Looking back, Boo had actually stopped paying attention to Vegeta after Trunks kicked him. Vegeta had to yell an insult at him to get his attention again. Imagine if Vegeta wasn't on a suicide mission and decided to try and sneak away. Fat ass can't sense, so Vegeta would've probably been able to get away without blowing up.

At that point, Vegeta was basically done and it not like he ever stood much of a chance from the start, so I don't blame Boo for not paying attention to him after he took him to "I'm gonna punch you so many times" city.

I feel if Vegeta did survive, he would've been in the same role as Piccolo was.

Not really. Boo was making a point of not letting any of the guys who fought him escape, since as you mentioned Vegeta had to taunt him to prevent him from going after Kamiccolo, Kuririn and the kids. Kuririn even implied death would be the most likely outcome for Vegeta, saying "What's Vegeta doing? He'll be killed!" As they run away. Boo is many times faster than him and can destroy the whole area to search after Vegeta.

Even still, Base Gotenks surviving has more to do with Boo than Gotenks. Boo was already stated to be too much for Gotenks before the fight began, so we know his return was a miracle.

When it comes to comparison's like this, it's probably best to just take the scene for what it is.

Not really. Boo was making a point of killing everyone he fights, with the only survivors of a fight being Gohan, who survived because Shin exploded Boo's blast, and Shin, who only survived because Vegeta butt in when Boo was about to kill him.
When you think about it, Gotenks surviving doesn't matter much for his power. It doesn't matter how much he's above the SSJ2s when he still fodder to Fat man and was a miracle that he survived if Boo was serious.

EV, why you think Base Gotenks is SSJ2 Tier if you think Gotenks vs Boo doesn't mean much?

Because Piccolo still said he was powerful, which doesn't seem like a reasonable deduction if he's super weak. The only issue was that he wasn't enough to handle Boo, as noted. The highest level at that point was Super Saiyan 3, and Piccolo suspected that Goku could've finished Boo if he actually tried. Base Gotenks falls in the "powerful but not enough to handle Boo" tier, so Super Saiyan 2 seems like a reasonable enough level for him to be.

I don't understand why the anime had Vegetto fight in base first. He does basically the same against Gohan Buu after transforming. All it does is make SSJ look nerfed.

I would say that Vegetto Base (Boo) was almost on the same level as Buuhan and that Vegetto SSJ was only playing with Buuhan, we must not forget that even Candy Vegetto SSJ was far superior to Buuhan.
