#16 was modelled after Gero's dead son.

Out of all the random trivia Toriyama's pulled out in interviews, this one is the one that helps aid the series, since it explains why Gero didn't want #16 activated when despite his personality, he was the strongest Artificial Human with the most loyalty to his goal of killing Goku. Gero must've still had some sentiment for anything that reminded him of his son.

#16 (Gero's Son) was considered the son of the red ribbon army, Gero did not want #16 to be destroyed so he made him a non agressive android. The loss of gero's son is another reason behind dr.gero's vendetta againts goku, As goku destroyed the army his son gave his life fighting for it.

Yeah..... Gero's son was probably some scrub soldier Goku killed while he was slaughtering multiple soldiers cause we never saw anyone who looked like 16 in the RR Arc. But then again we never saw Gero either, so fits in line with their BS back stories.

AT actually specified that #16's human model was "felled by an enemy bullet," so it couldn't have been Goku unless he just got the idea to try out a gun for some reason

Just a humanoid alien like the Saiyans, most likely. His biology is probably identical to a human's though, considering Toriyama didn't bother to provide any details on it.
