I am watching the Future Trunks/Goku Black Saga for the first time. Making a thread about it for myself and anyone else who's lagging behind on episodes. Also feel free to join in if you just want to rewatch or add comments.

This will be helpful for me. I have hardly any recollection of the early part of the arc.

Episode 1:

Poor Trunks. Does anyone have it worse than this kid? His mom and girlfriend die in the same episode. Plus everything is destroyed even worse than before, which sucks because he probably spent the last few years rebuilding all that.

Animation looks good. So did Future Trunks's redesign. If you don't like his new blue hair then suck it.

Bringing in this character seems like a huge lift for the series. The music changes, the tone changes. Great to see him back.

Was I surprised when it turned out to be Black at the end of the episode? No, because you fuckers spoiled that for me. Anyway great start...

Black has been torturing Trunks for over a year that point.

Damn son that's fucked up.

If Masako Nozawa is still doing the voice that's pretty impressive. She's got some good range for a 175 year old lady.

Not much to say about Episode 2. Just some set up getting Trunks into the main timeline. Is it weird that the animation of the destroyed future looks waaay better than the normal stuff? Maybe because its darker. Either way, still enjoying this.

Don't know how many more I'll watch tonight. Goku vs Trunks is the next episode, so I might have to bang that one out before quitting.

EDIT: Fucking sweet seeing Trunks rock out the Masenko! :bautista1

I love the voice she uses for Black, it was really well done imo. What do you think?

Fucking loved it. She's been doing the same voice for Goku since the very first episode of DB, so the change was a welcomed one. Kind of reminds me of the SSJ4 voice.

Episode 3: Again not a whole lot plot wise. The highlight was Goku and Trunks sparring. Wish it was longer but it was good to see how far Trunks has come since the Cell Saga. I also really enjoyed seeing Trunks versus Dabra, although I'm at a loss for how he blocked the stone spit. Vaporized it maybe? Anyway, Trunks is a boss. He's the only one who doesn't fuck around and ends a fight as soon as possible. Nice to see him getting SSJ2, he deserved it. I'm assuming Goku fought as SSJ2 without his god powers, otherwise Trunks has been using performance enhancing drugs. :CC

I'm convinced that if Trunks were the main character of DBZ/Super, and received the same training as Goku, that each arc would last no more than 5 episodes because he would just kill the other guy in a flash.

l0l a few weeks ago or a month maybe i was going to do the same and re-watch. i got somewhere i forgot and then lost my way. i kept thinking i'll get back to that but sadly kept pushing-off and then forget where i left off too, i think.

1 moment that stuck-out to me on the re-watch. that sad/piano version of dragonball super's 1st theme, but even more importantly the moment. vegeta's and trunks' relationship and how the once evil vegeta tells trunks not to give-up.

Well I'm doing this episode by episode since it's my first time. So maybe this will refresh your memory. :nice

Also yeah. Vegeta tries to act all hard like his old self at first, but then father Vegeta kicks in here. :cry

The whole arc is quite good, for Super that is, until Black whips out the scythe. Then it just plummets off of a cliff.

Episode 4: Basically all geared towards Black vs Goku. I like the ringing bell theme they use for black. I actually enjoy a lot of the new music they've introduced for this arc. Much more sinister compared to the series so far.

I do like that they're bringing back SSJ2 a bit more. Maybe it's not very practical given the new god power ups but I like seeing the previous forms acknowledged. Goku started the fight against Black using it so far as I can tell.

A decent fight overall. I usually enjoy the evenly matched fights the most because it becomes a sort of dance and dodge affair where skills and reflexes helps land the most blows. I do have to say that it was hard getting fully invested in this fight knowing that Goku was holding back the whole time. Granted, that's most of the show, not killing the bad guy right when the chance allows, but Goku has another two full forms to go so I know he's just toying with Black, and he knows too much about this guy to let it go down like that. Black murdered everyone he knows on that other earth, and is less than 12 hours removed from having killed Bulma.

The little catch of Bulma pulling out the old time machine that Cell travelled in after the original was destroyed was actually a very nice touch. Some decent and surprising bit of writing from :toei.

Should have let Vegeta fight Black first so he could end it the way he did against Frost.

Episode 5. Backstory on Mai and the resistance. :eek:k

That's about it. I do have to question why Trunks didn't know better that a small human militia would have absolutely zero effect on someone near Goku's level. He basically got all those people killed. Might have worked out better to have them hide deep underground until things worked out. :troll

They probably wouldn't have taken no for an answer.

The sinister atmosphere was really a welcome feature imo, I just wish they took it further.

The surprising part about this episode is that none of these happen in the manga. :troll
