A lot of the chapter felt like filler. Having Oden save the village from the giant boar could've been reduced to far less pages and creating drama over Kinemon possibly having lost Tsuru is meaningless when we know the answer. Chad Oden is a pretty entertaining character though, still making it one of the best chapters in a while. I have mixed thoughts on Orochi having been a lowly strret urchin who worked his way up to Shogun makes him a lot more interesting, but is a plot line that's been done to death. I do like how Oda has gone against his common portrayal of upper class = bad and showing that power in general corrupts, so Orochi has the potential to be one of OP's better villains if the flashback is executed properly.

I guess was nice seeing how Oden’s companions started following him, and how he gained the “trust” of Wano. Interesting to see Orochi introduced as an errand boy for Yasuie. Like you said CC this has potential to make Orochi one of the more fleshed out villains of OP. I don’t have much faith in Oda but let’s see what he will do.

Chapter 963 was a mixed bag. We got the reveal that Kawamatsu is a Fishman, but that was easy to piece together. The flashback skipping forward in time to rush over the growth of Oden's allies show how pretty much the entirety of the flashback prior was pointless other than the information about Orochi. We now know Chad Oden is on Prime Whitebeard's level, so the scale of Wano's certainly living up to its reputation. At least it'll be interesting to see how Kaido and Orochi were able to take Oden down. Hopefully, they don't ruin his feats by having him die like a chump to bullets like Fisher Tiger did

Whitebeard still told his commanders to stand back and described what was coming (ie. Oden) as incredible, even saying prior to the clash "this doesn't look good" and sweating from it. Oden is without a doubt on WB's level.

964 s out. That was an ok chapter. Seeing Oden'z backstory is definitely more interesting than the current arc. Definitely looking forward to seeing a younger Roger's ship and the dynamic there. Hopefully we see him fight wB.

Chapter played out in a pretty standard manner. Not much to say other than it still being far better than putting up with Luffy's bullshit in the main events of the timeline.

Also nice to see the respect WB gives Oden, treating him as a little brother rather than being directly below him in command like his adopted sons.

965 embodied both the pros and cons of the Oden flashback. Immediately skipping forward to Oden and Toki being married and having their son shows the flashback's failings of developing character relationships and the steps necessary for their growth. On the other hand, it does a good job at fleshing out Orochi's character and motivations, making it far more of an Orochi flashback than an Oden one. The Oden plot has been pretty much filler for the most part that only shows events we already knew of, though anything's better than putting the focus back on Luffy I guess.

966 was fairly lacklustre for the importance it was supposed to have. We see Roger and Whitebeard imbuing their weapons with Busoshoku Haki. Gee, I wonder why Whitebeard never used this at Marineford if Oda's supposed to plan everything
Oden's becoming a bit too much of a self-insert now. Yes, we knew beforehand he'd travelled with Roger and Whitebeard, though him being at the centre of most of the key events known of the Roger Pirates' journey to Raftel and being so integral to it when the crew was supposed to be able to understand what the Poneglyphs said through "hearing their voice" makes it pretty obvious how big of an attempt Oda's making to retcon Oden into key events. At least it was explained more people could decipher poneglyphs if the World Government didn't ban doing so, making Ohara being the last civilisation to do so rather than the only one; of which the latter would've had no explanation for this exclusive trait.
We learnt Blackbeard's supposedly never slept in his life, likely due to whatever unique mutation allows him to have 2 Devil Fruits. Not much of a reveal beyond hyping up how special he is.
Overall, an average at best chapter, though it at least provided interest in the one to succeed it and is still better than any of the events in the current part of the chronology.

967 was fairly pointless until the very last page. It sheds some light on what the One Piece will be...and that whatever it is will probably troll a large portion of the fanbase. Also, apparently Raftel is a mispronunciation of Laugh Tale. 
Also, we have Oden telling the audience how he discovered all about the Void Century and Will of D. and yet we still don't get even the slightest clue as to what either of them are beyond what we've been told already. Just shows Oda's going to milk the mystery bait for as long as OP makes money.
