That's not my interpretation at all though. I've already explained in depth multiple times what I think is happening. There requires no nuance to grasp Trunks' statements. Trunks, Goten, Piccolo, and Gotenks are all in on the joke.

Being a gag character doesn't mean your power isn't taken seriously. Some of Gotenks power implications should be taken seriously. Ssj Gotenks and Ssj3 Gotenks power implications should be taken seriously. Base Gotenks power implications should not.
