Gohan wasn't amazed by Goku's performance against Cell and thought he could do much better.

These two statements go hand in hand:

Chapter: 405 (DBZ 211), P10.4, P10.6
Goku: “…Wait for Gohan to get angry…! He’ll…probably…unleash his true power through anger, and suddenly display ferocious strength [ ] …To defeat Cell…The only thing we can do is place our hopes in this power of Gohan’s…”

Chapter: 405 (DBZ 211), P12.1
Piccolo: “Don’t forget…! Even if his power is #1, he’s still a kid…!”

Goku is counting on Gohan getting angry and Piccolo retorts by explaining that even if his power is #1 (through rage), he's still a kid.

Directly after owning Gohan momentarily, Cell is still more interested in Goku, not Gohan. Then we get the whole story about how Gohan gets angry, et cetera.

So there you go, I took your own #1 statement and turned it completely against you.

No notion within the Manga backs up that claim. Like-wise, the narrator says certain things that aren't always true because his opinion isn't relevant to the story, this is basic knowledge.

Anything in the actual story over-rides the title or the narrator.

What on Earth does the narrator have to do with the title of a chapter? And when has the narrator ever said anything that isn't true? Now you're just making things up.

Anything in the actual story over-rides the title or the narrator.

And nothing in the story overrides the title of the chapter...it's only supported by feats and other statements... Just accept the loss, t0sh. You're only making yourself look worse.

Anything t0sh doesn't like is there to fool the readers EV. It's a "basic storytelling concept". Duh.

Even if I chose to disregard the argument above I can argue something else completely different: 'The one who surpassed Goku'. This is a verb that relates to an occurrence, aka, something that happened previously; it's a past tense reference to when Gohan surpassed Goku during the battle with Radditz and/or Freeza.
